Why Put a Card Slot on the Back of a Pixel 9 Pro?

Because the thing most people actually carry alongside a phone is one or two cards, not a wallet full of them. A transit card. A debit card. A door fob for the office. If those live on the back of the phone, the wallet stays in a drawer and you leave the house with one object in your hand instead of two. That is the whole pitch, and it either describes your day or it does not.

The reason a slot built into the case beats a stick on card holder is adhesive. Stick on pouches peel. What Is This Case Actually Made Of?

Three materials, which the manufacturer specifies as metal, polycarbonate and TPU. Each one is doing a job the other two cannot.

The metal is the ring and the magnetic components. Metal is there because it is stiff and because it is magnetic, and nothing made of plastic will hold a phone's weight on a car vent mount or survive being bent out and folded back a few thousand times without going slack.

The polycarbonate is the rigid structure. Think of it the way you would think of a bike helmet shell: hard on the outside so that a point impact gets spread across a wide area rather than punching straight through to what is underneath. Polycarbonate is also what keeps the case's shape over a year, so the frame still holds the phone properly rather than going loose and rattling.

The TPU, which stands for thermoplastic polyurethane, is the flexible part. It is the same family of material as a running shoe sole or the rim of a hockey puck. It compresses when struck and springs back, which stretches the duration of an impact out over a few extra milliseconds and drops the peak force substantially. It is also what makes the case possible to fit at all, since a rigid frame with no give cannot be stretched over a phone.

A rigid shell alone cracks and transmits shock. A flexible shell alone goes floppy and lets sharp impacts through. How Do You Use the Card Slot and the Ring?

For the card slot, slide the card in squarely and stop when it stops. If a card needs force, it does not belong in there, and forcing a second or third card in is how a slot gets stretched permanently. One practical warning that applies to every phone wallet ever made: do not keep a hotel key card or a magnetic stripe card pressed against the back of a phone long term, because phone magnets and magnetic stripes do not coexist well. Chip and contactless cards are fine. Older stripe only cards are the ones at risk.

For the ring, lever it out of its recess with a thumbnail and rotate it to the angle you want. For portrait standing, bring it out to roughly perpendicular and let the bottom edge of the case and the ring form a tripod. For landscape, turn it a quarter turn so it braces sideways and lay the phone on its long edge. To carry, slide your index or middle finger through the loop and let the phone rest against the back of your hand.

Fold the ring flat before the phone goes in a pocket. It will survive being pocketed open, but a folded ring slides in and out of denim far more easily and will not snag a jacket lining.

One thing to know about contactless payment: a card sitting in the back slot and the phone's own contactless chip are both trying to talk to the same reader. If a terminal reads the wrong one, take the card out of the slot for that transaction. This is true of every card holder case and is not a fault.

How Do You Clean and Care for It?

Take the case off every few weeks and wipe both the inside of it and the back of the phone with a dry microfiber cloth. Grit migrates between a case and a phone, and trapped grit is what puts fine swirling scratches into a phone's back over the course of a year. Empty the card slot while you are at it, because that is where dust collects.

For the outside, a cloth dampened with warm water and a drop of dish soap handles most of it. Dry it fully before refitting. Keep acetone, nail polish remover and alcohol wipes away from the case, because solvents haze polycarbonate permanently and can dull a metallic finish. Be especially careful with the Rose Gold, since any coated metallic surface shows solvent damage more obviously than a black one does.

Do not leave the case sitting on a dashboard in direct summer sun for days at a time. Sustained heat is hard on any polymer, and a TPU layer that has been cooked will not spring back the way it should. And to say it plainly once more: this case is not waterproof and makes no water resistance claim, so any protection from rain is the phone's own sealing and not the case's doing.

The manufacturer does not publish a capacity, so we are not going to state a number. Treat it as an everyday card pocket: put in what slides in without force. If a card needs pushing, take it back out, because forcing cards is what stretches a slot permanently.

3. Does this case come with a screen protector?

No. There is no screen protector and no camera lens protector in the box. The case itself has a raised frame that holds the display and the camera area off a flat surface. Yes. The metal ring folds out of its recess and holds the angle you set it to, supporting the phone in portrait or landscape on a flat surface. Folded flat it sits in the recess and works as a finger loop instead.

The case has a magnetic array designed to align with magnetic chargers, so wireless charging is intended to work through it. One caveat that applies to any card holder case: a card left in the slot can sit between the charging coils and block or slow charging, and it is not good for a magnetic stripe either. Take the card out before you charge wirelessly.

9. Will the magnets damage my bank cards?

Modern chip and contactless cards are not affected by case magnets. Older cards that rely on a magnetic stripe can be demagnetised by prolonged contact with magnets, as can hotel key cards. If you carry a stripe only card, keep it somewhere other than the back of a magnetic phone case.
