What actually causes yellowing
Yellowing is a chemical reaction. UV light from the sun, heat, and skin oils gradually oxidize soft clear plastics. Standard clear TPU is the most prone, which is why a cheap transparent case can discolor fastest.
Why some materials resist it
Higher-grade materials fight back. Anti-yellowing TPU, hybrid TPU and polycarbonate builds, and coatings that filter UV stay clearer far longer. Many modern cases are explicitly engineered and labeled to resist yellowing.
How to slow yellowing on any clear case
Keep the phone out of prolonged direct sun and hot cars, wash the case with mild soap and water every couple of weeks to remove skin oils, and dry it fully. These habits meaningfully extend how long a clear case stays clean.
When to just replace it
