- Size: the Pixel 7 has a 6.3-inch display, the 7a a 6.1-inch. The 7a is noticeably shorter and narrower in the hand.
- Water rating: the Pixel 7 is IP68 — dust-tight and rated for immersion beyond one metre. The Pixel 7a is IP67 — dust-tight but rated to one metre for 30 minutes. That is a real gap, not marketing.
- Frame and back: the Pixel 7 uses an aluminium frame with a glass back and a metal camera bar. The 7a's construction is lighter and less premium. Glass backs shatter; the 7a's back is more forgiving in a drop but scuffs more easily.
- Battery: both sit in the 4,300–4,400 mAh range, so battery life is not the deciding factor here.
The size gap alone means Pixel 7 and Pixel 7a cases are not interchangeable in either direction. A 7a case will not stretch over a Pixel 7; a Pixel 7 case will rattle on a 7a and slide off in a fall.
What the Pixel 7 needs
