Motorola's Edge line is the hardest phone range in the world to buy a case for, and it is not the buyer's fault. Motorola has used the names "Edge" and "Edge Plus" across several model years, with regional variants (Edge 5G UW on Verizon, Edge Pro 30 internationally) that are the same hardware under different names. Get the year wrong and the case will not fit. Here is how to get it right.
Why Motorola Edge cases are so easy to get wrong
Three overlapping problems:
- The name repeats across years. There is a Motorola Edge Plus from more than one model year, and they are different phones with different dimensions.
- Carrier renaming. The same handset sells as "Edge 5G UW" on one network and "Edge Pro 30" elsewhere. Cases are often listed under only one of those names.
- The curved display. Edge models are named for their curved-edge screens. Curved glass changes how a case lip has to be shaped and makes flat tempered glass protectors nearly impossible to fit properly.
Edge vs Edge Plus: what actually differs
Within a given model year, the Plus is the flagship: larger display, faster chipset, better cameras and usually a slightly larger body. The standard Edge is the mid-tier version on a slightly smaller chassis. They do not share cases. Even where the difference is only a few millimetres, the camera housings differ in size and position, which is enough to break the fit.
Across model years the gap is wider still. An Edge Plus case from one generation will not fit the next generation's Edge Plus.
How to identify exactly which Edge you have
Do this before buying anything. Open Settings → About phone and read two lines:
- Model — Motorola model codes begin with XT followed by four digits and a suffix. That code is the only unambiguous identifier.
- Model name / marketing name — this will tell you whether Motorola considers it an Edge, an Edge Plus, an Edge 5G UW or an Edge Pro.
Cross-check with the year you bought it. Then match a case listing to that specific combination, not just to the word "Edge".
Best Motorola Edge Plus cases
Curved-screen phones need cases with a raised lip that clears the curve — otherwise a face-down drop puts the load straight onto the most fragile part of the glass. A military-grade full-body case handles that plus the corners.

What about newer Edge models?
The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra sliding cover with magnetic case and the Edge 50 Pro case range cover the more recent generation. These are entirely separate chassis from the Edge Plus above — do not cross-shop them.
Screen protection on a curved display
Rigid tempered glass cannot bend, so on a curved Edge display it bonds in the flat centre and lifts at the sides, catching on pockets until it peels. Two workable answers: flexible TPU or hydrogel film, which conforms to the curve, or a case with an integrated screen shield. The Motorola Edge Plus screen protector is cut for the Edge Plus display.
Frequently asked questions
Are Motorola Edge phones waterproof? Most Edge models carry a water-repellent design rather than a full immersion rating. Check your specific model's IP rating on Motorola's spec sheet — the gap between a splash rating and IP68 immersion is large. If you need immersion protection, it has to come from a sealed case.
Will a Moto G case fit an Edge? No. The G series and Edge series are entirely different chassis families.
Is the Edge 5G UW the same as the Edge Plus? Depends on the year. "5G UW" is a Verizon designation applied to both Edge and Edge Plus models across generations. You must check the XT model code.
Does the curved screen affect wireless charging? No — the charging coil is in the back, unaffected by the display shape. Case thickness is what matters for Qi speed.
Why won't my tempered glass stay on? Almost certainly because the display curves and the glass does not. Switch to flexible film.
Bottom line
Never buy a Motorola Edge case by name alone. Open Settings → About phone, note the XT model code and the exact marketing name, and match a listing to that. Edge and Edge Plus do not share cases, and neither do different model years of the same name.
