This is the rare case-fit question where the answer is genuinely "sometimes." Apple kept the iPhone 14 on the same chassis as the iPhone 13, which is why so many cases carry both model names. But the camera module changed, and that is where compatibility breaks down.
The dimensions are almost the same
- iPhone 13: 6.1-inch display, 146.7 x 71.5 x 7.65 mm, 174 g
- iPhone 14: 6.1-inch display, 146.7 x 71.5 x 7.80 mm, 172 g
Identical height and width. The iPhone 14 is 0.15 mm thicker — imperceptible in a case. Button positions, the mute switch, the Lightning port and the speaker grilles are all in the same places. On outline alone, an iPhone 13 case fits an iPhone 14.
The camera bump is the sticking point
The iPhone 14 uses a larger main sensor with a wider aperture than the iPhone 13, and the whole rear camera plateau grew slightly in both footprint and height. The two lenses on the 14 sit a fraction further apart and stand marginally taller.
What that means in practice:
- Cases with a generous, open camera cutout — most rugged, clear and TPU shells — will fit an iPhone 14 without complaint.
- Cases with a tight, contoured camera ring designed to hug the iPhone 13's plateau exactly will foul on an iPhone 14. Either the case will not sit flush, or the ring edge will rest on the lens glass.
The second scenario is the one to avoid. A case edge bearing on a lens ring is how coated glass gets scratched, and once the case sits proud the phone will not lie flat on a wireless charging pad.
If you are reusing a case, do the test with the phone off and the case dry: seat it fully, then look at the phone edge-on. If there is any daylight between the back panel and the case around the camera, do not use it.
Cases built for both
The safest route is a case explicitly listed for both models, which means the manufacturer cut the camera window to the larger of the two.
If you want a metal frame instead of plastic, the aluminium option cut for the iPhone 13 body gives you structural corners and a raised screen lip.

Screen protectors do transfer
This part is simple. The iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 have the same 6.1-inch flat display, the same notch dimensions, the same speaker slot placement. A tempered glass sheet cut for one fits the other exactly.
Note that the iPhone 13 Pro shares this display size too, so 6.1-inch sheets typically list all three. The iPhone 14 Pro does not — it introduced the Dynamic Island and a slightly different panel, so its glass is cut differently.
MagSafe works the same on both
Both phones have the same MagSafe magnet array in the same position, at the same strength. A MagSafe wallet, charger or mount that works on one works on the other. If your MagSafe accessory feels weak, that is almost always a case problem — a non-magnetic case more than about 2 mm thick puts too much air gap between the magnets.
Frequently asked questions
Will an iPhone 14 case fit an iPhone 13? Yes, in nearly every instance. The 14's camera cutout is the larger of the two, so it clears the 13's smaller plateau. You may see a small gap around the lenses.
Will an iPhone 12 case fit an iPhone 13? No. The iPhone 12 is 146.7 x 71.5 x 7.4 mm — same footprint — but the iPhone 13's lenses are arranged diagonally rather than vertically. The cutout shape is wrong.
Does an iPhone 14 Plus case fit an iPhone 14? No. The 14 Plus is 160.8 x 78.1 x 7.80 mm, a full 14 mm taller.
Do the iPhone 13 and 14 use the same charging cable? Yes, both use Lightning. USB-C did not arrive on iPhone until the 15 series.
Is the iPhone 14 more water resistant? Both are rated IP68 to 6 metres for up to 30 minutes under lab conditions. That rating is not permanent — seals age, and a phone that has been dropped should not be treated as still rated.
How do I check my exact model? Settings > General > About > Model Name. If a listing is ambiguous, use the Contact page or call 978-797-0223.
The bottom line
Same body, bigger camera. A loose-cutout iPhone 13 case will fit an iPhone 14; a tightly contoured one will not. Screen protectors and MagSafe accessories cross over freely in both directions.
