Check the S Pen silo on any case you consider
The pen ejects from a silo in the bottom-left corner. A case must leave that opening completely clear, including the shallow recess your fingernail needs to push the pen in until it clicks.
If the pen does not seat fully it does not charge, and a Note 10 Plus S Pen with a flat battery loses its Bluetooth air gestures. Wallet and folio cases are the common offenders because the cover often wraps the bottom edge. Test it: with the case fitted, eject and reinsert the pen several times. Any resistance means the wrong case.
Best structural protection: aluminium metal frame
Glass on both faces and a curved screen means the display glass sits at the outermost edge of the phone. A metal frame gives the highest lip above that curve for the least width.
Aluminium also sheds heat rather than trapping it, which matters more than it used to. A 2019 battery has been through a lot of cycles, and heat is what accelerates the remaining loss.
Best for water: sealed full-body case
The Note 10 Plus shipped IP68 rated. Treat that as historical. Seals age and impacts stress them, so a seven-year-old phone should not be taken near water on the strength of its factory rating.
Close any sealed case empty and submerge it in a sink for a minute before trusting it with the phone. It takes no time and it has saved a lot of handsets.
Best for maximum impact protection: heavy protection cover
If the phone has been handed down to a child or moved to a worksite, a dual-layer heavy cover is the right format. Bulk is not a downside in that role.
Best for carrying cards: leather wallet
A folio adds bulk but covers the curved screen when closed, which on this phone is worth more than it would be on a flat-screen model.

Screen and camera protection
The Note 10 Plus has a slim vertical camera strip that barely protrudes, so lens rings are less critical here than on later phones — but the lenses are still bare glass. A combined screen and camera pack covers both.
On the curved display, flat glass will eventually lift at the edges. Narrow-cut glass or flexible film are the two workable answers. The phone uses an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader, so pick a protector rated for it and re-register your print after fitting.
