Galaxy S23 vs Galaxy S23 Plus: Do Cases Interchange? - Gorilla Cases

The Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus were the first Samsung flagships to drop the contour-cut camera bump entirely, leaving three floating lenses on a flat back. Both phones got that treatment, both got the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chip, and both got the same flat display. So the natural question when you upgrade or buy secondhand is whether one case covers both. It does not.

Dimensions that decide the answer

  • Galaxy S23 (SM-S911): 6.1-inch display, 146.3 x 70.9 x 7.6 mm, 168 g, 3,900 mAh
  • Galaxy S23 Plus (SM-S916): 6.6-inch display, 157.8 x 76.2 x 7.6 mm, 196 g, 4,700 mAh

An 11.5 mm height gap and a 5.3 mm width gap put these two phones in different case families. Even a soft TPU shell cannot stretch that far without leaving the camera cutout misaligned, and a misaligned cutout is the single most common reason a case gets returned.

Identifying your model in ten seconds

Go to Settings > About phone > Model number. SM-S911 is the base S23. SM-S916 is the S23 Plus. SM-S918 is the S23 Ultra, which has a curved screen, squarer corners and an S Pen silo, and shares cases with neither of the other two.

If you are buying secondhand and the seller only sent photos, count on the width of the camera lenses relative to the body: on the Plus the three lenses occupy proportionally less of the back panel.

Choosing for the base Galaxy S23

The base S23 is the compact option in the lineup and the phone people buy when they do not want a slab. Its 3,900 mAh battery is the smaller of the two, so a case that traps heat during wireless charging will cost you real runtime. Aluminum-frame cases dissipate heat better than thick rubber for exactly this reason, and they add rigidity around the corners without much thickness.

If you would rather show the phone's finish, a shock-absorbing flexible TPU shell keeps the profile thin and lets the original colour through.

Everything cut for the 146.3 mm chassis lives in the Galaxy S23 Cases collection.

Choosing for the Galaxy S23 Plus

The Plus is 196 g and 157.8 mm tall, which means two things practically: it is harder to hold one-handed, and it lands harder when dropped. A kickstand or a card-slot case that gives your fingers something to hook onto reduces the number of drops in the first place, which is more effective than adding armour after the fact.

The Galaxy S23 Plus Cases collection covers wallet, holster, rugged and glitter formats cut to the larger body.

Screen protectors: same shape, different size

Both phones use a flat Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel, which is the easy case for tempered glass — no curved edges to lift. But the sheets are cut to the panel and are not interchangeable. Both also use an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, so pick glass that explicitly states fingerprint-unlock compatibility. Thick or heavily coated glass can degrade ultrasonic reads until you re-register your fingerprint.

Peak brightness on both is 1,750 nits, and a heavily tinted or privacy-filtered protector will cut a meaningful amount of that outdoors. That is a real trade-off worth making deliberately rather than by accident.

What genuinely transfers between the two

  • USB-C cables and bricks. The S23 charges at up to 25 W wired, the S23 Plus at up to 45 W. A 45 W charger works on both; the base model just will not use the headroom.
  • Camera lens protector rings in many cases, because both use the same three-lens spacing.
  • Universal car mounts and vent clips.
  • Qi wireless chargers and Wireless PowerShare. Neither phone has built-in magnets, so any magnetic mounting comes from the case.

Frequently asked questions

Will a Galaxy S22 case fit an S23? Not reliably. The S22 is 146.0 x 70.6 mm and the S23 is 146.3 x 70.9 mm — within a third of a millimetre, but the camera cutout changed completely when Samsung removed the contour bump. An S22 case has a raised island that an S23 has no need for, and the lens holes will not line up.

Will an S23 case fit an S24? No. The Galaxy S24 is 147.0 x 70.6 x 7.6 mm with flatter, squarer edges. Close in size, different in shape.

Do the S23 and S23 Plus take the same wallet case? No. Folio and card-slot cases are moulded to the exact body, so they are model-specific.

Is the S23 Plus worth a rugged case if it is already IP68? IP68 covers dust and fresh-water immersion under lab conditions. It says nothing about drop survival, and the rating degrades as the phone ages and takes knocks. The two protections are unrelated.

How do I check a specific case before ordering? Compare the model number on the listing to the one in your phone's settings. If something is unclear, use the Contact page or call 978-797-0223.

The bottom line

SM-S911 and SM-S916 are two different phones in the same jacket. Cases, glass, holsters and battery packs are model-specific. Chargers, lens rings and universal mounts are the only things you can move between them without thinking about it.
