The Galaxy A11 and Galaxy A21 launched within months of each other and get confused constantly. They are not the same phone, they do not share cases, and — crucially — neither carries any water resistance rating from Samsung at all. That last point is why this comparison is worth reading before you buy anything.
Galaxy A11 vs Galaxy A21: the differences
- Galaxy A11: a 6.4-inch HD+ display, a triple rear camera, roughly 4,000 mAh battery.
- Galaxy A21: a 6.5-inch HD+ display, a quad rear camera in a square housing, roughly 4,000 mAh battery.
Different screen size, different body outline, different camera count and a completely different camera island shape. Cases do not cross over in either direction, and a case that "nearly fits" leaves the camera rim exposed.
Note also that the Galaxy A21s is a separate phone again, not a minor variant. If your box or Settings says A21s, do not buy an A21 case.
Why the missing IP rating matters
Samsung reserves IP67 and IP68 ratings for its flagship S-series and the upper end of the A-series. Budget A-series phones like the A11 and A21 have no immersion rating whatsoever. There is no seal around the ports, no gasket behind the display, and no design margin for a spilled drink.
On a flagship, a waterproof case adds headroom to protection the phone already has. On these phones, a sealed case adds protection that does not otherwise exist. That is a bigger jump.
What IP68 on a case actually means:
- 6 — dust-tight. No ingress of dust at all, which also keeps grit out of the charging port.
- 8 — continuous immersion beyond one metre, to the depth the manufacturer specifies.

What you give up with a sealed case
Be clear-eyed about this before ordering:
- Speaker and microphone volume drops. Sound has to travel through a sealed wall. Calls on speaker will be quieter.
- No cable access while closed. You open the case to charge.
- Touch feel changes. A membrane sits between your finger and the glass. It works, but it is less crisp.
- Bulk. A sealed clamshell is meaningfully thicker than a slim shell.
If none of that is acceptable for daily use, the honest answer is to buy a slim case for the office and keep the sealed case for the beach, the boat or the job site.
Which one is right for you?
Get the sealed case if the phone goes near water, sand or dust with any regularity — fishing, boating, pools, construction, landscaping, kitchens. On a phone with no factory rating, a single splash into a charging port can end it.
Skip it if the phone lives between a desk and a pocket. Spend the money on a screen protector instead; screens fail more often than ports flood.

How do I tell an A11 from an A21? Count the rear lenses — three for the A11, four for the A21. Confirm with the Model number in Settings → About phone.
Can I use the phone underwater in a sealed case? The touchscreen will not respond underwater. Use the physical volume key as a camera shutter, which works through most sealed cases.
Does the seal need maintaining? Yes. Rinse the gasket with fresh water after salt or chlorine exposure, dry it, and check it for grit before every close. A single grain of sand on the gasket is enough to break the seal.
Will a sealed case work with wireless charging? These phones do not support wireless charging, so the question does not arise — charge by cable with the case open.
Is a case with a "water-resistant" label the same as IP68? No. "Water resistant" without a rating number is a marketing description. Look for an explicit IP figure.
