Reminder: The iPhone 18 is not released. Specs are rumored; this MagSafe guide covers what to expect and will be updated when Apple confirms details.
How MagSafe Works
MagSafe is Apple's magnetic system, introduced on the iPhone 12. A ring of magnets in the phone (and in a MagSafe case) aligns chargers, wallets, stands and mounts to the back of the device. A proper MagSafe case has the magnet array built in, so accessories snap on securely and wireless charging lines up.
What to Look For in a MagSafe Case
Strong, correctly-positioned magnets; a slim profile so the magnetic hold stays firm; and compatibility with MagSafe chargers and accessories. If you use a magnetic wallet or car mount, a genuine MagSafe ring matters far more than a case that simply claims to be "magnetic."

What to Expect for the iPhone 18
MagSafe is expected to continue on the iPhone 18 line. If the magnet placement and body size stay close to the 17, MagSafe cases should transfer quickly once fit is confirmed. As always, a changed camera cutout can still require a new case.

What is MagSafe? Apple's magnetic accessory and charging system introduced on iPhone 12, using a magnet ring on the back of the phone.
Do I need a MagSafe case for magnetic accessories? For the strongest, best-aligned hold, yes — a case with a true MagSafe magnet ring performs far better than a plain case.
Does MagSafe slow charging? A well-designed MagSafe case is built to allow proper wireless charging; very thick or metal-heavy cases can interfere.
Will a 17-series MagSafe case fit the iPhone 18? Possibly, if dimensions match — confirm official specs first.
